The Shadow of Draggowraith

Exiting Wave Echo Cave

The party had been split-up after a cave-in and had agreed to meet-up at the cave entrance. After meeting Victor, a large, floating, spherical creature with a giant eye and tentacles, and the restless spirit of the wizard Mormesk, the party retrieved the book detailing the existence of dragons on Glacia Mundos and returned to Turin’s Quarry to rest.

Ellyn and Celeste took the body of Celeste’s squire, Sally, out of the cave and back to the nearby city-state. Ellyn and Celeste split from the group to tend to the funerary rites, leaving the party to seek a room at the Mason’s Guild for the night. Before the party retired, Baern divvied up the spoils of Mormesk’s chest, including an intricate emerald statuette of an elf.

The next day the party were able to find a caravan heading to Arbington, via Archmouth and were able to join the caravan as guards. The journey was uneventful.

Upon arriving at the Order, the party gained word of a fest happening in a few short hours, and were quick to give their report to Ivan, the Grandmaster of the Order so they could get ready for the event. The party found Ivan in his office, along with Muse and Leon Duskwalker. The party explained how they had tracked down the Black Spider, dispatched her, and recovered the book, which was handed to Muse for further investigation. The party was dismissed and then prepared for the feast.

The party enjoyed themselves during the feast, eating and drinking merrily. Partway through, Ivan stood up to address the hall, providing updates and progress reports on the various assignments of the Order. During this address, the party members were officially promoted from Initiates to Journeymen to a round of applause. After several more reports, Ivan explained that there had been sightings of a dragon to the north of The Divide, between Damerel and Oar’s Rest, and that he was dispatching a force to investigate. After the Grandmaster finished, the feast continued. The party was asked by Muse if they would accompany him on the mission to investigate the dragon sightings, and the party agreed.

The next day, Darvin sought out Ivan to ask him about the strange visions he had been having during his nightly trances. He told Ivan about the visions, including the most recent one, 2 nights ago, and inquired into whether these visions were portents or merely dreams. Ivan was unsure, but advised Darvin not to worry. Ivan also asked about the crystal the party had found underground near Harthwaite, as Baern had had a similar vision when he picked up the crystal, but could not determine if it was related to Darvin’s visions.

A few hours later, the party were prepared for the mission and joined the others. Around 40 members in total were to accompany them, split evenly between Witchers and Rangers. They were given horses and left with the contingent. They were led by one of the rangers, who kept a watchful eye out, and the party were safely able to cross The Divide. Once closer to Damerel, they saw the town proper was being set on fire, and rushed forward to investigate. While racing towards the town, a blaring horn was heard and shortly after, a large blue dragon swooped down from the sky and decimated the contingent. The group was split and amongst the screams and shouting, the party heard a command to head towards the keep. The party raced onwards and eventually made it into the town, where they came across goblins and kobolds pillaging and ransacking the town. The party were able to catch and deal with a raiding party who were chasing a family through the streets, and escorted the family safely to the keep.

The Burning of Damerel

Damerel was under attack.

Darvin, Baern, Geronimo and the family they rescued, had reached the keep in the middle of Damerel, just before being attacked by a group of raiders. Inside the keep, they found Valanthee and Ellyn, having already arrived shortly before the others. Geronimo spotted another halfling and had ran off before anyone had a chance to stop him.

The party sought out Leon Duskwalker in top of the battlements to see how they could help the defense. Leon told them how the fort was surrounded and he gave them a mission to secure an old tunnel leading out of the fort to an exit a few hundred feet away in some nearby hills. The party descended into the tunnel and found the exit grate. The key provided to them was broken off in the lock by Baern, who then proceeded to bash the grate open using brute strength.

Once the grate was removed, the party emerged to find themselves surrounded by a group of kobold raiders. The party was able to take them out and hid the bodies in the bushes next to the tunnel entrance, to make sure no-one would stumble across this tunnel accidentally.

Baern agreed to stay behind while the rest reported back to Leon about the now secure way in and out of the fort and were given another mission; to scatter the forces setting fire to the mill in the East District. They were also asked to capture one of the leaders of these raiders to get information. From what they saw up on the battlements, it seemed that anyone wearing purple was giving orders and was a likely target for capture and interrogation.

The party made their way through the streets and found a group of kobold raiders who were trying to set fire to the mill. The party attempted to stop them and midway through the battle, they were ambushed by 3 humans and a giant lizard. The party were able to take out the kobolds, the lizard and 2 of the humans, and captured 1 alive and tied him up, preparing to return him to the keep for questioning.

The Burning of Damerel Continues
Damerel's Dragon Defense

The party were able to capture an commanding officer of one of the raiding parties that was attacking the mill in Damerel, and were able to bring him back to the keep without incident. Darvin, Ellyn and Baern had disguised themselves using the robes they took from the cultists they fought and Valanthee, still in hippogriff form, was able to carry the prisoner back to the keep. Once they delivered the prisoner to Leon, the party took a short rest to recover.

Less than 2 hours later, a large horn blared out and shortly after, screams and other sounds of battle were heard outside. The group rushed out of the barracks, and found that the same large blue dragon had come back, this time attacking the keep directly. Baern rushed up to the battlements, while the rest of the adventurers made their way into the main courtyard to assist. The group watched as the dragon swooped down on the keep, electricity crackling out from it’s mouth, cutting a swath along the keep’s battlements, taking out several defenders along the way. The party, along with rangers from the order tried their best to attack the dragon, but were unable to do any significant damage. After a few more attacks on the keep (one knocking out Ellyn and Darvin), the dragon flew off suddenly.

It turned out the dragon was a distraction, and raiders were at the main gate, trying to burst through with a battering ram. The defenders only had a short time to prepare for this onslaught. Darin was directed to find the Governor’s Apprentice in the keep, while the rest set-up oil in front of the gate to slow down the attackers.

A few minutes later, the gates were breached and a stream of kobolds and goblins flowed through the gap in between the gates, but the party were able to hold them off. Leon and his fellow rangers were up on the battlements firing into the oncoming raiders, trying to thin out the numbers. Darvin shouted for the party to push them back so the gate could be closed, but the gate was too badly damaged to close properly. The Governor’s Apprentice said she could help, and rushed forward to mend the gates with her magic.

The group only had minutes before the next wave was incoming, and tried to pick off some of the members of this next assault from afar. One of the halves of the gate was repaired, when suddenly, a drake burst through knocking Baern to the ground and a few kobolds followed it through. The party dispatched these as quickly as they could and once the attackers were dealt with, the Apprentice rushed forward again to finish repairing the gate. She was able to repair the gate and the party closed it off before more raiders could get inside.

Shortly after the attack, word was received by Leon that Muse and a group of survivors were holed up in a nearby church, which was currently surrounded by raiders. The party, although tired, offered to rescue the survivors, and left at once.

They made their way to the church, wearing the cloaks they had procured earlier, and saw that the raiders were trying to set fire to the building to flush out the occupants. Darvin attempted to scout out the raiders silently, but was spotted and after a failed attempt to decieve, were attacked.

During the fight, Valanthee, Ellyn and Baern were knocked unconscious. When it looked as though the party were to be defeated, an eerie melody was heard, and those that had been knocked out were awoken. The party looked towards the chuch and saw Muse at one of the higher windows playing his pan-flute. With renewed vigour, the party were able to defeat the rest of the raiders and begin to escort the survivors back to the keep.

The Burning of Damerel Concludes
Duskwalker's Deadly Demise

While escorting the survivors of the church fire in Damerel, the party were spotted trying to sneak back to the keep. They eliminated the raiders, with Muse’s spell keeping them alive during the fights.

Eventually, they returned to the keep, where Muse suddenly colapsed, and various wounds appeared on his body. The party felt the spell ending, and Darvin and Ellyn rushed to Muse to make sure he was ok. Muse told them not to worry, and that he just needed rest. The party agreed rest was in order, and after reporting to Leon, the party made their way to the barracks to rest.

About an hour into the rest, the party heard signs of commotion up on the battlements and went to see what was happening, except for Darvin, who stayed to rest. Baern, Ellyn and Valanthee got to the battlements and saw the army outside, and a figure strode forth through the ranks. This figure stopped and began to speak, enhanced magically to a loud booming noise that all in the keep could hear.

The figure asked if there was anyone who could challenge him, and that he would spare the lives of the 5 he had captured if someone faced him in single combat. Upon hearing this, Baern and Ellyn started walking down to meet him, and were soon joined by Leon. They made their way to meet this figure, a dark-skinned draconic humanoid.

Leon advised the others to be wary of any tricks, and then stood to face the figure in combat. Leon ran his thumb along the blades of his scimitars, infusing them with magic. The figure drew his great-axe in response. The fight then began, and Leon seemed to be doing well. He was able to block and get a few blows in, but the figure keep up his onslaught. Leon brought his scimitars to block, but the figure was able to overpower him and unleashed his acidic breath-weapon, and burn the lower-half of his body. With his movement slowed, Leon did his best, but was outmaneuvered by the figure, as the great-axe came down and sliced through him.

The figure, satisfied, released the 5 he had captured, 2 humans and 3 halflings, 1 of which the party recognised, and the party escorted them, and Leon’s corpse, back to keep. The party moved Leon to the make-shift morgue, and them made their own way to the barracks, to rest.

The next day, the party awoke and Darvin was given the news about Leon. The party then sought out Muse, for their next mission. Muse told them that the army were amassing a hoard of treasure for their ‘master’ and that we need to stop the army. Baern offered his tracking skills, and the party agreed to try to track down the army to disrupt their plans.

The party went their separate directions to resupply, and were to meet back up at the keep. While on his way to the blacksmiths, Darbi ran into Elden, one of his friends from the monastery. Elden told Darvin of how he and Tal, another friend, had taken an artifact from the monastery and gone to fight the army themselves. They had fought together, but Tal was captured, and Elden was able to escape. He pleaded with Darvin to rescue him, and Darvin agreed to help.
